Ready to explore the Karen Museum?
The Karen Blixen Museum is located in Nairobi, around 10km from the city center, and was once the home of the Danish author Karen Blixen and her Swedish husband, Baron Bror Blixen-Finecke. Built in 1912, the farmhouse for their 6,000-acre farm, which also included 600 acres of coffee farming. After the Baron moved on, Karen continued to run the farm until her return to Denmark in 1931. The farm was eventually bought by Remy Martin, and the house was occupied by various owners until it was purchased by the Danish government in 1964 and given to the Kenyan government as an independence gift. The museum gained international acclaim with the release of the movie, Out of Africa, based on Karen's autobiography.
